Artist Statement:

For my final photography project, I wanted to use a visual representation to define what a “musician” goes through, is involved in, and works for to put together a performance.  To do this, I illustrated the cycle of rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and concerts that a musician will encounter through his/her life.  Also, I wanted to create a series of images where the frame never changed in the shot – creating a storyline that showcases the subject of the images.  I used a window mount that I had purchased, mounted my camera in Aycock Auditorium, and began shooting something similar to a timelapse.  The camera was not always shooting, but the specific moments that I made sure to get pictures of included: prior to the ensembles’ rehearsals (blank stage with proper stage set-up), the dress rehearsal for each ensemble, the concert for each ensemble, as well as after the concert (blank stage with dim lighting).  I think the project as a whole really shows the amount of work a musician is required to put into anything they perform, and helps to define everything that musicians do to create a performance that only happens one time.

Please note – there are no audience members in the balcony during the choral concert simply because the area was restricted.
